Since the end of World War II, the global financial order centered on the U.S. dollar has underpinned the international monetary system. Today, however, that order faces mounting challenges. With the return of the Trump administration, U.S.–China tensions have extended beyond trade frictions into the realms of diplomacy and security, putting the durability of the dollar-based system to the test.

China’s push for the internationalization of the yuan, the growing number of central bank digital currency (CBDC) experiments worldwide, and the increasing integration of stablecoins into the formal financial system are collectively reshaping the very architecture of money and payments.

Against this backdrop of profound transformation, Korea Economic Broadcasting will host the Global Financial Conference 2026 under the theme “Dollar, Yuan, and Crypto: The Reshaping of the Global Financial Order.”

The keynote speaker will be Professor Carmen Reinhart, co-author of This Time Is Different (2009)—a seminal work that anticipated and analyzed the global financial crisis triggered by the collapse of Lehman Brothers—and former Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. Professor Reinhart will examine the strategic rivalry between the dollar and the yuan from a long-term macroeconomic perspective and offer deep insights into how the rise of digital assets may reshape the existing international monetary order.

The second session will feature economist Saifedean Ammous, who gained global recognition for his book The Bitcoin Standard. He is expected to present his distinctive perspective on whether digital currencies and crypto assets will replace or complement existing monetary systems.

At this pivotal moment in the transformation of the global monetary order, we warmly invite you to join us for a meaningful discussion on the strategies and choices through which Korea’s economy and financial industry can expand opportunities while effectively managing emerging risks.

Thank you.
